WaterRA welcomes our newest Board members

Water Research Australia is pleased to announce the election of three new directors to its Board, as well as the re-election of one sitting director. Their addition to the Board will help WaterRA forge strong relationships and promote interconnectivity across the sector.

The WaterRA AGM on November 4 2021 saw the election of three new non-executive directors:
  • Deb Evans, Water Corporation (Utility Member)
  • Prof Stephen Gray, Victoria University (University Member)
  • Assoc Prof Helen Stratton, Griffith University (University Member)
Deb Evans is the Head of Strategic Finance at Western Australia’s Water Corporation where she has responsibility for financial planning and analysis, financial modelling, treasury management and regulatory pricing. Deb also holds key leadership positions on Perth’s Seawater Desalination Plant, Corporate Water Quality committee and serves on WaterRA’s Risk and Audit Committee.
Prof Stephen Gray is Associate Provost Research Institutes and Centres at Victoria University where he oversees research across the entire university and is responsible for ensuring research performance, alignment of research with university strategy, delivery of impact, compliance with regulations and the university’s research budget. He has been an active applied water researcher for approximately 30 years and was identified as a "thought leader" in Lux research's international review of water research in 2013. His research interest areas are in membranes and water treatment, as well as sustainable water management.
Helen Stratton is an Associate Professor in the School of Environment and Science at Queensland’s Griffith University. Helen has over 29 years’ experience in water and wastewater research developing a comprehensive understanding of the technical, social and economic issues that the industry faces. She has worked extensively as a consultant to the water industry and has developed strong partnerships throughout Australia and internationally. Helen has built an international profile, publishing over 90 refereed articles in peer-reviewed journals, reports and conference papers.
Steven Porter from Power and Water was re-elected as a non-executive director (Utility Member). Appointed earlier this year, Steven is the Executive General Manager, Water Services at the Northern Territory’s Power & Water.
WaterRA’s new Board members will provide diverse views and expertise that will further our vision as a leading source of water wisdom for healthy communities and a healthy planet. They will serve for a term of three years and we wish them all the best.
