ColoSSoS further recognised for R&D excellence

March 5, 2021

The ColoSSoS Project – Collaboration on Sewage Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 – was awarded the R&D Excellence Award at both the NSW and Victorian AWA Water Awards held recently.

Led by Water Research Australia, ColoSSoS is a collaborative Australia-wide investigation that is tracking and monitoring the presence and persistence of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the Australian sewerage network.

Announced at formal ceremonies over the past week, both Water Research Australia and ColoSSoS Project partners were awarded for rapid development and implementation of a wastewater surveillance tool for the detection of SARS-CoV-2.

The awards for the Victorian and NSW nodes of the project, along with the SA node that was awarded late last year, recognise our work to monitor and identify possible COVID-19 cases through analysing wastewater samples across the country, and support the government’s pandemic response.

The ColoSSoS Project is a major national collaborative effort that sees experts in health, microbiology, laboratory testing and wastewater-based epidemiology all come together to foster research and create positive impact throughout our communities.

The national R&D Excellence Award will be announced at the Australian Water Association’s Oz Water Gala Dinner in May.
