We are very delighted to announce Mark Gobbie as our new Independent Chair
We are very delighted to announce Mark Gobbie as our new Independent Chair as voted by our member representatives with 85% approval.
Mark has almost 40 years’ experience as a professional engineer and General Manager in infrastructure delivery and has specialist expertise in water and wastewater. His great energy, enthusiasm and passion for the water sector represents the values we hold dear as a member-driven and funded organisation. He is also an experienced Company Director, bringing a wealth of knowledge in ‘best practice’ governance, having served on the Board of Diving South Australia (Chair) for the past four years .
In addition to this, he is also the current President of the SA Branch of the Australian Water Association; Chair of the School of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Adelaide; and a trustee of the Edwardstown Football Club. His strong local, national and international network perfectly complement the activities and ambitions of WaterRA into the future.
Mark is excited by the prospect of joining Water Research Australia (WaterRA).
“The opportunity to join WaterRA as Independent Chair of the Board is not only a huge honour but a challenge that I am particularly looking forward to”, Mark Gobbie said.
“I have long held the view that continuing to develop our industry through research is critical to ensuring the provision of cost effective and safe services to the communities we serve. As a practitioner at SA Water for the past 7 years, and as a service provider to the water industry more generally before that, I feel I am well placed to help guide WaterRA to increase the value and profile of research within the water sector, for the benefit of the membership”, Mark said.
We look forward to welcoming Mark at our 2020 AGM on 28 October, where he will officially commence his three-year term as WaterRA Independent Chair.
