Led by Water Research Australia, ColoSSoS is a collaborative Australia-wide investigation that is tracking and monitoring the presence and persistence of the virus that causes COVID-19 in the Australian sewerage network.
Announced at the Awards Night and Gala Dinner on Friday, 6th November, both WaterRA and SA Water were awarded for rapid development and implementation of a wastewater surveillance tool for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. The award recognised efforts between SA Water and SA Health to monitor and identify possible COVID-19 cases through analysing wastewater samples from eight wastewater treatment plants across South Australia.
Working with national experts in health, microbiology, laboratory testing, wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) and policy communication, the ColoSSoS Project is a major collaborative effort across water utilities, health departments and researchers, with links to global expertise through the Global Water Research Coalition and The Water Research Foundation in the US.
