Background and Relevance

This project is an extension of Project 2001 'Quantification of pathogen removal in activated sludge' which has investigated the reduction of the pathogen Cryptosporidium parvum and indicators E. coli, coliforms, enterococci somatic phage and particle profiling in a pilot scale activated sludge plant (ASP) operating at the Eastern Treatment Plant. This project aims to develop a reliable method for predicting pathogen reduction online to replace the need for collection of actual pathogen reduction validation data.
