The aim of the project was to develop a rapid, reliable and sensitive molecular diagnostic tool for the detection, identification and quantification of toxigenic cyanobacteria. A rapid, inexpensive and reliable tool to assess the toxigenicity of ‘algal’ blooms will thus represent a critical service to the industry allowing management decisions to be made from an informed position underpinned by cutting-edge science.
A paper from this project was published in the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Probes:
"Rapid, multiplex-tandem PCR assay for automated detection and differentiation of toxigenic cyanobacterial blooms" Journal of Molecular and Cellular Probes Volume 27, Issues 5–6, October–December 2013, Pages 208–214
