Microplastics are widely regarded to be an emerging contamination issue for the environment and there has been substantial research activity into understanding the impact of MPs on wastewater treatment and biosolids. However, the risk of MPs entering the potable water supply or making it through tertiary treatment into recycled water is received less scrutiny and the public health risks are less well understood.
