Smart monitoring for microbial risk assessment

Project Number # 4111-17

Measuring the stability of host faecal DNA markers in environmental water samples using PCR assays

Project Leader:  Sarah Aucote

Drinking water is produced from environmental water sources, such as reservoirs, rivers, ground water and sea water. Identification of faecal contamination of source water is essential to determine the risk to human health and the level of water treatment required to make safe drinking water. This project aims to develop DNA-based assays for identifying faecal contamination in water to improve our understanding of public health  risks from source water.
