Background, Relevance and Research Approach:

  • Predictive toxicology modelling of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as well as Endocrine disrupting compounds
  • Modelling looks at the chemical structures of the compounds involved and judges their propensity to produce daughter chemicals, uses mathematical probability distributions to predict chemical products and likely reaction chemistry,
  • Study will assist the research by answering whether it is possible to model and predict how to manage chemical mixtures rather than measure analytically.
  • Has a high potential for application to the industry as some compounds are very transient and intermediate products which are likely to be missed analytically
  • Added to this are the extremely low concentrations typically involved so hinders analytical techniques
