March 4 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm AEDT

Join us for a research outcomes webinar on the Investigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Open Wastewater Sludge Lagoons. This research provides new insights into methane and nitrous oxide emissions from common sludge treatment lagoons, helping to define emission factors and explore potential mitigation strategies.
Greenhouse gas emissions from laboratory-scale column incubations that mimicked anaerobically-digested (AD) and waste-activated sludge (WAS) lagoons were analysed over a two-year incubation period. The research found that methane emissions—primarily from ebullition (bubbling)—were the dominant source of greenhouse gases, highlighting a key area for targeted mitigation efforts. Additionally, nitrous oxide emissions varied over time, suggesting the need for further investigation.
This webinar will unpack the study’s findings and discuss future research directions, including carbon and nitrogen cycling dynamics and strategies to reduce methane emissions.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into wastewater emissions and discuss next steps for reducing environmental impacts.
This event is FREE and available for both WaterRA members and non-members. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about the project outcomes, and recommendations to advance this research.
