WaterRA launches Industry Internship Program

21/7/2026

New industry internship program brings research and industry together

Got a problem that needs fixing? A knowledge gap to address? Or perhaps you could use some additional expertise and a dedicated resource to apply to a vexing challenge?

WaterRA’s new Industry Internship program brings research and industry together for projects that deliver real-world impact.

Under the program, PhD researchers from participating universities are placed in internships in industry organisations to complete defined projects as part of their study. Projects are determined by the industry partner and PhD researcher, with the support of the university. The placement project generally aligns with the PhD researcher’s PhD project.

Researchers apply their skills and research to practical problems and challenges, with the backing of their university’s learning infrastructure, expertise and knowledge resources. They can contribute to research, data analysis, or operational projects that existing staff may not have the capacity to undertake, bringing with them new ideas, current academic knowledge, and different ways of thinking that can enhance problem-solving and innovation.

Their fields of research include science, engineering, environmental studies and digital technologies.

If your organisation would like to get involved as an industry internship partner for an internship placement, or your university would like to engage WaterRA to manage any of your internship placements, reach out to our RLP Team.
